Who We Are
The MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence is a Rochester-based nonprofit organization, that works to equip community to use nonviolence to create a sustainable and just world for all. Or in other words, we work to "Increase the Peace." Our 4 Pillars (Areas of Work) are Nonviolence Education, Restorative Practices, Racial Justice and Environmental Sustainability. The Gandhi Institute was founded by Arun and Sunanda Gandhi in 1991. Arun was the Fifth Grandson of Mohandas Gandhi.
What We Do
The Gandhi Institute offers programming for local Rochester youth ages 12-24, folks who work with youth, and surrounding community groups or members. We offer events, workshops, and programs for youth, educators, and community groups, all rooted in our mission to spread nonviolence and build community. We work with local organizations, academic institutions, students, committed peacemakers, community members in a mission to engage the community in positive, collective ways.
