The students will be helping out on our Back to School Campaign distribution. Every year ESWA volunteers and supporters collect and distribute school supplies for our members' school-aged children. We know that that time of year adds an extra burden to working peoples' budgets. We tackle that burden through the supplies and clothing given out, saving our members hundreds. The 29th is the second day of the sort/distribution so the students will be filling all the backpacks using lists that are made based on age/grade. This is a very hands-on project, and I think it's a lot of fun. The location for the event is 60 Bittner St. Rochester, NY 14604 at Salem United Church of Christ.

Volunteers can anticipate cleaning, painting, weeding, and/or filling a dumpster.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to serve as Team Leaders for our Saturday of Service event during Welcome Week 2026.

Incoming students will take part in a variety of service projects (including gardening, cleaning, painting, and more) as a way to get them acclimated to the region and introduce them to the ways they can get involved. Accompany our new students at their sites & help them get better acquainted with their new peers and community!

All who sign up will receive training.

Light Up GO ART! is an artist-focused volunteer project for students who are confident in their creative abilities and interested in contributing meaningful, high-quality work.

Participants will create original ornaments using repurposed lightbulbs, designing pieces that reflect themes connected to GO ART!’s programming and community impact, including cultural celebrations such as Juneteenth, Día de los Muertos, Pride, and winter traditions, as well as broader expressions of identity, storytelling, and the arts.

This is not a casual craft activity. Artists are expected to approach their work with intention, skill, and attention to detail. Each ornament will be part of a curated collection, displayed throughout GO ART!’s space and offered for sale as part of our fundraising efforts.

Proceeds from ornament sales directly support the sustainability of GO ART!, helping to maintain and power the more than 200 lightbulbs that illuminate our historic building and galleries. Through this project, each artist’s work quite literally helps keep the lights on for arts and culture in our community.

Every great performance, exhibit, and community event begins long before the doors open. Join the GO ART! team in preparing one of Western New York's busiest arts centers for thousands of annual visitors. Volunteers will work together to vacuum and shampoo carpets, dust galleries, polish historic features, wipe down furniture, remove cobwebs, clean windows, and refresh public spaces throughout our historic building. Your efforts will help ensure artists, students, families, and community members experience GO ART! at its very best.

No prior experience is necessary. Wear comfortable clothes that can get a little dusty and closed-toe shoes.

The zines we'll be folding have information about library resources & services, so you'll head into the academic year with useful library knowledge!

Every year, SUNY Brockport hosts Camp Abilities Brockport, serving and teaching children with visual impairment through sports and life skills. Every year, we host the camp in the summer for 1 week. After that week, our sheds that hold all the water equipment and tandem bikes become disorganized. We need at least 4 people to help move all the stuff from the two sheds we have, sweep and dust the floors, and then organize everything back in the sheds again. THE LOCATION IS PARKING LOT D ON HOLLEY STREET ACROSS FROM CAMPUS

Every Saturday Rochester Hope opens the doors of our food pantry from 9:00a-3:30p, serving nearly 400 families every week. The pantry operates as a small free grocery store, where every person receives a small shopping cart and is paired with a personal shopper. As a volunteer, you can be a personal shopper, help restock shelves, or pull the grocery wagon to the parking lot. 

We also serve a community meal and host a rotation of dozens of community service agencies to table and host clinics, which people can visit as they wait to grocery shop. As a volunteer, you can help serve the meal. Of course, you are also welcome to sit and share the community meal!

Help cleanup around the property, plant flowers, complete miscellaneous outdoor duties.

Join us at Monroe Community Hospital (MCH), a county-run long-term care facility for recreation activities and crafts with our residents.  Make someone's day by lending a helping hand, conversating and visiting!

We're excited to host you in the EDEN Gardens! This service project will include a brief orientation to food sovereignty efforts in the Beechwood neighborhood of the City of Rochester, including community gardens and a weekly food pantry. 

We will work on a variety of garden tasks - weeding, harvesting produce, planting, etc. Come dressed in closed toe shoes, and please bring whatever is needed to keep you comfortable while working outside - water, hats, sunscreen, etc. 

In case of bad weather, we will be indoors working on tasks for our weekly food pantry. 

Spend time organizing and cleaning the costume storage area in Tower Fine Arts.  Learn about music and theatre opportunities while helping clean up and sort out our costumes!

We will sort and organize previously donated and recently purchased items into stations, then pack care packs containing hygiene, safety, and other items. These care packs will then be distributed to local organizations providing street outreach. We will provide you with a Human Trafficking 101 basics as well as an overview of our organization, the work we have done, and what's upcoming for us!

Volunteers of America's nationally accredited child care center proudly serves more than 150 children daily from 6 weeks through Pre-K with early childhood programming, in addition to after school enrichment programs for up to 12 years old. We offer a warm and welcoming community of staff, children and families, and provide additional on-site support services.

Help our teachers prepare for the new academic school year by organizing and cleaning classrooms.

Join us at Seabury Woods Assisted Living Community for a fun day of board-game play. Facilitate and participate in games with residents!

Join us at St. Joseph's Park to help clean and beautify one of Downtown Rochester's historic neighborhoods. Experience the open-air tranquility of the St. Joseph's Park ruins, a national registered landmark. Packaging: Disposable aluminum trays make serving and storing the meal a breeze.

The Pediatric Hospitality Cart at East River Road Clinic is a volunteer-supported program designed to provide healthy, nutritious snack bags to pediatric patients and their families during medical appointments. Serving the Departmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Unit, Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness Unit, and Pediatric Neurology Unit, the cart offers a simple but meaningful gesture of comfort for families navigating often lengthy and challenging visits.

Many families travel significant distances—often 30 miles or more—for care. Providing a ready-to-go snack bag helps ease that burden, ensuring children have access to nutritious food and offering caregivers one less thing to worry about during their visit.

This initiative builds on the success of the AC6 Pediatric Hospitality Cart at Strong Memorial Hospital, expanding that model of care and compassion to the East River Road location. With consistent volunteer support, the cart operates Monday through Friday for four hours each day, serving families year-round.

Community involvement is central to the program’s success. Volunteer groups and individuals are invited to sponsor a designated week by donating 500 prepared snack bags (a one-time commitment per week). Each snack bag costs approximately $1.41 to assemble. Sponsors are recognized with signage on the cart during their selected week, with opportunities to support multiple weeks for those interested in a greater level of involvement.

Through this collective effort, the Pediatric Hospitality Cart helps create a more supportive, compassionate healthcare experience—making a difference one snack bag at a time.

Pediatric Hospitality Cart Volunteers operate and maintain a stationary cart for pediatric patients and their families visiting Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics. The stationary cart offers snacks and brings joy to children and their family members who are receiving treatment. The cart runs Monday-Friday, 12:00pm-4:00pm, with one volunteer needed each day.

Virtual Volunteer Tutor/Mentor Opportunity 

Step Up Tutoring is seeking volunteers to provide virtual 1-on-1 tutoring to 2nd-6th grade students from underserved communities to help build fundamental math and literacy skills and to provide support and encouragement. All tutoring will take place virtually! All you need is a computer and internet access. No prior tutoring experience is needed.

Responsibilities:

Tutor 1-on-1 twice a week via an online video platform; each session is 45 minutes

Live training sessions to prepare you for tutoring — no prior experience required

At Life Solutions of Hamlin Food Pantry, we source food from many sources; Foodlink, Wegman's, Aldi's and Tops Markets.  We are looking for volunteers to pick up food from Tops Market in Hamlin, NY, deliver it to the Pantry, weigh & put it away.  This would be a once a month opportunity for approximately 2 hours at a time.   Must be able to lift 50 lbs, provide your own transportation, prompt and reliable.

The St. Leo Respite Program provides support and respite services to people living with dementia and their families. Participants will engage in friendly conversation, play games, and enjoy activities in a safe and fun environment while their caregivers have respite. This program will be supported by Volunteer Companions, who will provide companionship, assist with facilitated activities, and help create a sense of belonging in a supportive, dementia-friendly environment. The program will run weekly on Thursdays, with a session from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM and a second session from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Volunteers can sign up for one to two sessions per week. There will also be a monthly Wednesday dinner. 

Pediatric Hospitality Cart Volunteers operate and maintain a mobile cart for pediatric patients and their families on various pediatric units at Rochester General Hospital. The mobile cart offers snacks, toys and bring joy to children and their family members who are admitted in the hospital.

Dedicated members needed in the fundraising team for Brockport Food Shelf’s new building.  Tasks would include: Planning Fundraising Events, Social Media Marketing & Logo Designing. Note that this is a long-term service project, expected to carry on for at least a year.

Wishmakers on Campus is a customizable fundraising program that provides college campuses, clubs, teams, and more the opportunity to engage in philanthropy and service activities in partnership with Make-A-Wish. The program encourages community service, leadership, volunteerism, and teamwork. It helps build school spirit and creates partnerships outside of academics while providing students hands-on experience fundraising to help create life-changing wishes for kids fighting critical illnesses.

Through Wishmakers on Campus, college students rally together to plan and coordinate fundraising campaigns to help Make-A-Wish grant more wishes to local kids with critical illnesses.

An Alzheimer's and Dementia Educator plays a key role in raising awareness and providing education about Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and brain health. This will involve delivering presentations, workshops, and educational sessions to various groups, including caregivers, families, and people living with dementia. The goal is to increase understanding of dementia and promote early detection, prevention strategies, and caregiving support.
