Light Up GO ART! is an artist-focused volunteer project for students who are confident in their creative abilities and interested in contributing meaningful, high-quality work.

Participants will create original ornaments using repurposed lightbulbs, designing pieces that reflect themes connected to GO ART!’s programming and community impact, including cultural celebrations such as Juneteenth, Día de los Muertos, Pride, and winter traditions, as well as broader expressions of identity, storytelling, and the arts.

This is not a casual craft activity. Artists are expected to approach their work with intention, skill, and attention to detail. Each ornament will be part of a curated collection, displayed throughout GO ART!’s space and offered for sale as part of our fundraising efforts.

Proceeds from ornament sales directly support the sustainability of GO ART!, helping to maintain and power the more than 200 lightbulbs that illuminate our historic building and galleries. Through this project, each artist’s work quite literally helps keep the lights on for arts and culture in our community.

	Q: Do you verify that a representative from your agency will be on-site on the day of the event? A: Yes
	Q: Do you verify that your organization is a non-profit or government agency, and is not a business or private residence? A: Yes
	Q: Do you understand that the project is to run for anywhere between 1.5 and 3 hours of service (approximately 1pm-4pm, timeline of the day forthcoming)? A: Yes
	Q: Do you understand that your organization is to provide any materials needed for the volunteers, i.e. gloves, masks, gardening tools, etc.? A: Yes
	Q: Will there be a restroom available at the site, or within short walking distance? A: Yes
	Q: Would you recommend the students wear any specific attire? A: Please dress for a hands-on studio environment. Wear comfortable clothing that can get messy, and closed-toe shoes. Aprons or work layers are welcome but not required.
	Q: Is there anything else you would like us to know about your site's project? A: This project is designed to function more like a guided studio experience than a traditional volunteer activity. Students will be contributing original artwork that will be displayed within our space and offered for sale as part of GO ART!’s fundraising efforts, so we place a strong emphasis on intention, craftsmanship, and care. We ask that participating students come prepared to engage as artists, not just volunteers. Each piece will be part of a curated collection, and artists will be encouraged to think critically about their concept and execution. We also aim to create a welcoming, inclusive environment that reflects the diverse cultural programming at GO ART!, and students will have the opportunity to draw inspiration from themes such as cultural identity, community storytelling, and global traditions. Finally, it’s important to note that this work has a direct and tangible impact. Proceeds from ornament sales support the sustainability of our organization, including helping to maintain and power the more than 200 lightbulbs throughout our historic building. In a very real way, the work created during this project helps keep the lights on for arts and culture in our community.
